When the lockdown began, many in-person events and conventions such as MineCon, TwitchCon, and competitions were cancelled or postponed. When this happened, companies took to streaming platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, and FaceBook to reach out to their audience. Esports moved from in-person events to fully virtual, having their teams play together from their own homes.
The League of Legends Championship series began in 2012, and is a popular esport series to watch among many. LCS has many large events every year, hosting competitions, performances, and awards in large arenas for all to attend. LCS competitions were streamed prior to COVID-19. During 2020, the LCS series was streamed as well, with the only change being that professional teams would now play from their homes rather than a large arena.
